Fasting: The Lost Discipline; Sermon Notes

Fasting: The Lost Discipline {Part 2}
John 4:31-38 & Isaiah 58
September 17, 2017

Statement of Truth:
Anything that I have to have is enslavement for me.

Points to Ponder:
      I.     We have Little Hunger for God

II.     We have a limited amount of hunger

Statement of Truth:
That the attempt to satisfy self apart from doing to will of God is not just a frustrating process but it is a very discouraging process.

III.     Our enslavement to food hinders our hunger for God

IV.     Fasting breaks our enslavement to food

Statement of Truth:
Anything that could empower you should be set-aside for a time to break its dependence.

VI.  When we fast that enslavement is broken and we are free to focus our hunger upon what really matters.

VII. Fasting if done rightly can ignite our hunger for God.

Doers of the Word:
1.      Am I wisely investing my limited capacity for God?
2.     What has kept me from fasting in biblical ways?
3.      What is in my life that I am enslaved to that hinders    my hunger for God?

4.     Study the following: Zechariah 7:1-5; Colossians 2:21-23; Psalm 69:10; Daniel 10; Acts 9; Ezra 10; Esther 4; Joel 2:15-16; 2 Chronicles 2; Isaiah 58
