Filled With Christ{mas}:  Peace
Luke 2:1-14

Theme:  For the listener to learn that the real feast of Christmas has nothing to do with food.  Many will feast this Christmas on food that will leave them hungry again.  The greater feast on Christmas is not the food that we eat but the Saviour we should worship!

Three Areas of Life That Steal Peace:
  • When things happen suddenly
  • When things happen frequently
  • When things happen out of my control

I Feel Peace When:
  • I feel peace when I experience conversion
    • This is peace with God

  • I feel peace when I experience covenant
    • This is peace from God

  • I feel peace when I experience confidence
    • This is peace of God

Three Keys to Peace:

  1. Acceptance
  2. Focus
  3. Gratitude

Hearers of the Word…

Filled With JOY {When I feel forgotten}
Luke 1:5-25
Theme:  Many will feast this Christmas  on food that will leave them hungry again.  This series is about feasting on the bread of life and feeding our souls this Christmas with the things that truly matter most.

I Feel Forgotten When:
  • Righteousness goes unregarded
  • Faithfulness goes unrewarded
  • Time goes on unrelenting
Good News:  You are not forgotten!

When Do I feel Joy?
  • When God's presence is revealed
  • When I submit myself to walk in His ways

How Does Joy Happen?
  • When Comfort is provided I feel Joy

Doers of the Word…
  1. Describe a time in your life when you felt forgotten. What was your greatest struggle in relation to God?
  2. Do you find it hard to serve God regardless of your circumstances?  Why or why not?
  3. What do you sense God is waiting to fulfill in your life, family or church?  Will you be steadfast enough to have faith while you wait and work on what is in front of you?
  4. Think about a time when you experienced trust godly Joy…. What was it that made that so special?
  5. In what ways can you seek to comfort others in 2019?

Filled With Hope
Luke 1:26-35


Theme:  Many will feast this Christmas  on food that will leave them hungry again.  This series is about feasting on the bread of life and feeding our souls this Christmas with the things that truly matter most.

  1. Hope  meets us where we are 
    1. Gabriel Came in a time when Hopes were dashed
    2. Gabriel came in a time when desperation was real

  1. Hope overcomes all obstacles
    1. God’s message overcomes all our trouble
  2. Hope brings a plan
    1. God’s plan includes the redemption of mankind
    2. God has a forever plan that is perfect

  1. Hope is received by faith 
    1. Faith is to be personally exercised 


Statement of Truth:
Faith is believing the word of God, then acting upon, no matter how I feel, because God promises a good result.

What is Legalism?

A biblical example of leaving legalism… Luke 19: 1-9

  • Jesus engages Zacchaeus despite his Culture.   

  • Jesus engages Zacchaeus in Conversation.    

  • Jesus engages Zacchaeus to produce commitment.  


  • This anti-cultural conversation produced change within his community.

Enemies of A Spirit Filled Life  Part B
Colossians 2:16-20

Theme:  There are real  enemies of the Spirit Filled Life that God gives us.  We must learn to break the chains of legalism, mysticism,  and asceticism.  

Statement of Truth:
If human effort is effective the work of Jesus was unnecessary!

I.  What is Legalism?   

Legalism attacks the freedom we have been given in Christ

    A.  The  Bondage of Legalism

       Warning:  The bondage of legalism will kill your Spirit!

   B.   The  blessing of Grace

II.   What is Mysticism?

Mysticism is having contact with the supernatural spirit world by ways of meditation  and trances

       A.  It promotes self and experience

       B.  It demotes the Saviour

III.  What is Asceticism?


Asceticism is the practice of self-denial

CALL TO ACTION!

1.   As a believer live like you  have died to the Law!  

2.   Believers have been separated from the rule of this world, so set your mind and hearts on things above!

3.  Believers do not need to yield to legalism, mysticism or asceticism.

The Spirit Filled Life   {Part B}
Colossians 3: 15-16

Theme:  There are biblical witnesses of a Spirit Filled Life that 
we can evaluate and take comfort in.

I.  The Peace of Christ
      Two characteristics concerning peace:
          1.  God’s peace is Calling us to live in unity
          2.  The Character of God’s peace is thankfulness
II.  The Word of Christ
        Three characteristics concerning scripture:
1.   The Residence of the Word of God!
2.  The Richness of the Word of God
3.  The word of God produces RESULTS

Remember:  The peace of God is not His provision
for my life it is His presence in my life!

Doers of the Word…
Call to Action:
I.      The word of God is to be affectionately received in my life 
II.    The word of God is to be passionately applied to my life

Questions to Consider:
1.      In what ways do you try and separate the scared from the secular?
2.      What evidences of a Spirit filled life does your life manifest?
3.      Is the Peace of God ruling and leading your life?
4.    Is our church united as one body in peace?  What ways can we move closer to what God desires?


On your own read and study the following passages:
Philippians 4:6-7; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:14; John 14:27; 1 Corinthians 6:17
