Becoming Like Minded

Philippians 2:1-5


Theme:  For the hearer to know that we have a responsibility to live our lives in a manner that is worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  That requires of us to have the same mind as Jesus Christ!

Key Verse:
Chapter 2: 5 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”

Doers of the Word:

  1. What do you think keeps us from being like minded?
  2. Fellowship is more than the food we eat and weather we often talk about.  What is true fellowship to you?
  3. What are the barriers to true fellowship?  How do you think we can best overcome them?
  4. What are ways you can help build unity this week?
  5. What are you doing to show comfort to the body of Christ?

Unity Is the Basis of Worthiness
Just One Thing wk2
Philippians 1:27-30

Theme:  For the hearer to know and understand that living a life worthy of the Gospel is the one thing that unites us in mission and mind.  Therefore, we must stand firm!

Statement of Truth:
Imperatives without accountability does not bring about transformation.


  1. A Call to Stand Firm   {a verb indicating continual action in the present tense}
    • We are to be United in Mission
    • We are to be united in Mind
    • We are to be united in gospel hostility

Doers of the Word:
  1. Was your life consistent with the gospel of Christ this week?  Did you stand firm both in mission and ministry?
  2. What do you perceive is the greatest hostility toward your faith? Does it threaten your Gospel consistency?
  3. If standing firm requires you to die daily because you do not possess the strength necessary in your flesh, in what ways are you still holding on?   What do you need to let go of and give to Christ?

  1. We need each other.   How committed are you to the local church?  What keeps you from being more involved?  What do you need to change if you want to see to be  more like minded in ministry?

Hearers of the Word:
Just One Thing
Philippians 1:27-30

Theme:  For the believer to know and understand that trusting Jesus Christ is not the finish line but rather the starting line.  

Statements of Truth
   *  The Gospel has expectations for each of us.
*  Regardless of the state of the messenger the message is the same.

Question to Consider:
This week was your conduct worthy of the Gospel of Christ?

Statement of Truth:
Imperatives without accountability does not bring about transformation.


Doers of the Word:

  1. In Red River parish this week was your conduct worthy of the Gospel of Christ?  If not, what needs to be confessed and what changes do you need to make this week?
  2. Standing firm is an important theme in Paul’s writings.  Could it be that every generation is faced with certain battles that tempt us to give up kingdom advancements?   What you yo think God is calling our church to do in our parish to help believers to stand firm yielding only to a Gospel worthy life?
  3. In what ways can you stand side by side with those across the aisle for faith in unity? 
  4. In what ways do you think that the evil one has influenced your thinking?  What will you do to correct it and bring it under the control of The Mind of Christ?

Joining Jesus On Mission
Matthew 28:16-20

ThemeAs a new disciple of Christ, you are part of Jesus’ continuing mission for the world.
Statements of Truth:
  • If the devil can’t get us bound up in the world, he will get us busy in the church!
  • His last command should be our first concern!


Four Elements to Fulfill the Great Commission:
  1. Jesus Says, “COME”   Verses 16-18
  • They came to meet him
  • They came to Worship him
  • They came to hear him
  1. Jesus Says, “GoVerse 19
You and I are to deliver His message
God is not concerned about a Place but People!
  1. Jesus Says, “Do” Verse 20a 
We can tell them with our lips, but we must disciple them with our lives
  1. Jesus Says,  “Remember” Verse 20b
I’ll deposit my Presence

Call to Action:

The ultimate purpose of the church is to glorify God!

The ultimate
task of the church is to do evangelism!

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.  -  NIV  Acts 20:24
