Real Freedom

I've been studying Israel's history in the Old Testament. As You know in Deuteronomy 6, Moses gave commands, decrees, and laws that came from God to the people to follow. Among these things were clear directives to fear the Lord, keep the decrees, careful to obey, Love the Lord, and more. these things are to be on the hearts of the parents impressing them upon the children.
Keep in mind all of this passage was given to them as they were about to go over into the the Promised Land. This was to be their way of Living.
As you know Israel turned away from the pursuit of God. They began to disregard His eternal rule and law, they began to harden their heart, and they even entreated their enemies seeking to make peace, but in the end brought a painful devastation upon themselves.
They removed God from the public places, they replaced them with idol poles and statues to foreign gods… They married pagan people, {today we call that unequally yoked} - They lifted up their children on the altars of pagan sacrifices. {today we call that abortion, the idol of self convenience} They celebrated immorality and they persecuted righteousness. God sent prophets to warn them, and yet ultimately God sent judgment to rebuke them.
I would submit you today, as you celebrate your freedom in this great land of ours, that history is repeating itself in the nation of America. We too have turned away from God, we too have replaced righteous living with the pursuit of happiness, feelings, experiences, all of which lead to the decadence and immorality we so clearly see.
If there is to be any hope: Beloved what we need today is righteousness to be restored.
The real truth is this: the freedom that we really seek the found only in the freedom that Christ provides. Government cannot provide or grant true freedom, nor can government protect that freedom. It is only by the power of God that our freedom is reserved.

To God's glory I'm a pilgrim passing through to an eternal home that never changes.
