STRUGGLES, SYMPATHIZER, AND STRENGTH

Matthew 26:36-39, 41 & Hebrews 2:18

I. JESUS UNDERSTANDS OUR STRUGGLES

Statements of Truth:

·       Temptation illustrates our struggle to remain true to God and His will, or to take pleasure in doing life our way

·       It is not the church that contains the answers  but it is the Christ of the church who contains the answers

II. JESUS SYMPATHIZES WITH OUR WEAKNESS

Life Lesson: Our mature and growing love for Jesus leads us away from temptation and into wise choices.

III. JESUS STRENGTHENS OUR RESOLVE WITH HIS PROMISES

Statement of Truth:

When I am not what I ought to be he remains what he is

The Pattern of Spiritual Tragedy:

           1.      Self-Confidence

           2.     Sleep

           3.     Temptation

          4.     Sin

          5.     Disaster

  

     The way to Victory:

          1.      Confidence in God

          2.     Moral and Spiritual vigilance

          3.     Resisting temptation

          4.     Holding to obedience
