1 John 4:7-12

I.    GOD’S LOVE PERSONIFIED AND PERSONALIZED   v7-8

II.   GOD’S LOVE PROPITIATED IN JESUS    v9-10

a.     Propitiation includes 6 things

                       i.     God’s Holiness

                      ii.     God’s Wrath

                     iii.     God’s Justice

                    iv.     God’s Mercy

                     v.     God’s Love

                    vi.     God’s Grace

b.     3 Propitiation Precepts:

                    i.     Propitiation teaches us that God personally hates sin

                   ii.     Propitiation teaches us the truth that Christ’s death satisfied the Father and was a substitution for sinners.

                  iii.     Propitiation teaches us that God’s holiness required satisfaction and that God’s love provided satisfaction.

Statement of Truth:

What the law of God demanded the love of God provided.

III.   GOD’S LOVE PERFECTED IN BELIEVERS  v11-12

Statement of Truth:

Seeing people for who they are that leads us to judgment.  

Seeing people for who they can become, that leads us to Love.
