Theme: Should our culture grow more hostile it would be of utmost importance for those who are unbelieving to see within us:  A touch of joy that is real, and a heart that is happy, a conviction that is clear,  a conversation that is consistent, and a behavior that is bold.   On every given day we should live life in light of a salvation that is so great!

3 things happen when we lose the battle:

1.    Hurts the Believer's Sense of God

Point to Ponder:

When these unbelievers do trust Christ, they will glorify God and give thanks because we were faithful to witness to them even when they made life difficult for us.

Theme: That the follower of Jesus Christ would commit themselves to live godly lives as the single most effective advertisement for making the gospel attractive to others.

Peter’s challenge is pointing in 2 different directions.

• Peter is after the scandalous conduct of so-called Christians that provides fuel for the critics and skeptics vicious accusations.

• Peter wants the reader to understand that the godliness of true Christians does the most to silence Christianity’s opponents.

Dangers of the Drift

Hebrews 2:1-4

Today’s Theme: Being a Christian is serious business, not a sour business.  We must not neglect our great gift, lest we get left in the drift.  This is a passage picturing the believer being stationary and the river flowing and passing a person by.

1. A Question that Deserves Discussion v 3-4

How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?

2. A Statement  That Deserves Disclosure v 2-3a
   A.  Sins of  Commission
   

B.  Sins of Omission

3. An Answer that Deserves Defining v 1

How does a believer drift away? The word drift means to slip, to flow like a river.  The verb is passive.  

A.  Drift:  Flow like a River

The picture is not of a Christain drifting away as we often think of, but rather it is a  picture of a follower of Jesus being stationary and the River flowing on and passing you by.

McAbee translation:   I must be careful not to neglect or drift in my walk with God lest at any time we should be flowed by.

Maccabeanism:

If you are standing still then you are not going with God and you are being left behind.

Point to Ponder:

God’s great salvation is like a mighty flowing river and a Christain can get his feet wet in that river or he can go beyond the shallow water to the depths of his salvation and into the fullness of it.  In so doing,  we can be swept away by the grace and mercy of GOD!

B.  Drift:  To Slip Past

Questions to Consider

How does a believer drift away?

Have you ever felt like your faith is passing you by?

Are you different today than you were a year ago?

Are you ready for a normal Christain life?  Or are you settled with the status quo?

Today’s Theme: regardless if we share with 1 or with 3000 we are to be faithful to obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit and preach the Gospel as God gives opportunity.

I.  Prayer was a priority

III.  Peter and John did not have money but they did have Jesus

Statements of Truth:

• There is no entitlement when God chooses to use you


• Mercy was in God’s heart before sin was ever in your heart


IV.  Repentance Leads to Refreshment


Points to Ponder:

• We are lifeless without God’s touch!

• 
It is not about what you don’t have.  It is about what you do with what you have!



• Little is much when God is in it! 

• Never get to impressed with yourself!

Questions to Consider:

• Who or what are we relying on?


• Am I willing to reach this culture and touch those in need even if it is just one?

Today’s Theme: Even in a culture that was hostile, and uncertain the people of God were faithful to the task given to them, and as a result they experience a great time of refreshing.

Statement of Truth:
Refreshment came as a result of faithfulness.  Peter and John were faithful to minister to one!

                    myself or would I give him the credit?

Theme: We are all  challenged by life’s circumstances.   This is a message to encourage us to overcome life’s obstacles by the power of Jesus Christ and finish strong.  No, It is not easy, but it will be worth it. 

POINT TO PONDER:

Often times as christians we confuse the wonderful doctrine of  God’s omnipresence with God’s manifest presence.

Statement of Truth:

Yes, God is everywhere but is manifest presence is not equal everywhere! 

I.  If you want to be strengthened in HIS grace eliminate the drain.  

1.  Learn the right things from the right person

2.  Focus on those who are ready

II.  If you want to be strengthened in HIS grace solider on.

1.  Focus on the mission

2.  Prepare for action

Statement of Truth:

As Christians, we are not called to easy passivity, but to rigorous activity.

Call to Action:

• Lay Aside the Weight

Earnest  Effective Praying    

Acts 12:1-17

Theme: Prayer connects us to God and others in ways nothing else can.  Why then do most people wait for an emergency in their lives to pray?  We call upon God in times of desperation. People in their human nature will exhaust every other resource before they put their faith in God and call upon His name. We all have come to learn that our conditions don't have to be ''desperate'' in order for us to cry out to God, but there is power in a heart that is earnestly praying to God.

1. NOTHING CAN HARM YOU, until it’s your time!

QUESTION TO CONSIDER:
What Is Standing Between You and God’s Call?

A.  Mindless Obstacles Will Not Stop Us

B.  The Accord Belongs to God

C.  Don’t look at the locked gate and despair

POINT TO PONDER:

Our God works for people who wait for him.

Verse to Memorize:

Acts 12:5   “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.”

Dig Deeper: {verse10}
Gates do not have any “accord”. No will. No desire. No decision. No accord. Is it an odd translation? Actually it’s a pretty good translation of the Greek automatē. You can even read that. Automatic. Auto: self. Mate: an impulse. So, the gate opened of its own impulse.  

Question to Consider:


1.  What bars of iron are in your way?

2. What do you expect God can do or will do if you pray, work, watch and wait?
